Supersaturation is controlled in such a way that the overall aggregate volume grows linearly in time. Classical Ostwald ripening, which is recovered in the limit of vanishing overall growth, constitutes an unstable solution of the dynamics. In the presence of overall growth the evaporation of aggregates always drives the dynamics into a new, qualitatively different growth regime where ripening ceases, and growth proceeds at a constant number density of aggregates. We provide a comprehensive description of the evolution of the aggregate size distribution in the constant density regime: the size distribution does not approach a universal shape, and even for moderate overall growth rates the standard deviation of the aggregate radius decays monotonically. The implications of this theory for the focusing of aggregate size distributions are discussed for a range of different settings including the growth of tiny rain droplets in clouds, as long as they do not yet feel gravity, and the synthesis of nano-particles and quantum dots.

Study of Saturated Hydraulic Conductivity Variations in Different Aggregate Size Distributions in an Agricultural Soil
Saturated hydraulic conductivity (Ks) is one of the most important soil physical characteristics that plays a major role in the soil hydrological behaviour. It is mainly affected by the soil structure characteristics. Aggregate size distribution is a measure of soil structure formation that can affect Ks. In this study, variations of Ks were investigated in various aggregate size distributions ...
متن کاملThe effect of season on the growth and maturation of bell peppers
Bell peppers grown in greenhouses in the Mediterranean region are frequently subjected to high temperatures in summer and low temperatures in winter. The present experiment was designed to quantify the effect of season on pepper fruit growth, maturation and ripening. Three bell pepper (Capsicum annuum L.) cultivars (Yolo Wonder, California Wonder and E84066) were cultivated in an unheated ...
متن کاملPart I: Ostwald ripening theories
The physical basis behind the Ostwald ripening process for two-phase mixture has been reviewed in detail, using the various theories developed to describe this process. The Ostwald ripening, also termed second phase coarsening, is generally thought to be slow, diffusion-controlled process which occurs subsequent to phase separation under extremely small under-saturation levels. The major advanc...

We report here that sizeand shape-focusing can be achieved through the well-known Ostwald ripening process to produce high-quality metal nanocrystals (NCs). Using Pd as an example, we show that the addition of small NCs of appropriate sizes could help in modulating the growth of larger NCs and enable excellent control over both the size and shape uniformity of the products. A detailed mechanist...
متن کاملThree Dimensional Monte Carlo Simulation of Isotropic Coarsening of Particles in Liquid Phase
Coarsening of particles during liquid phase sintering is known to be an example of Ostwald ripening. This coarsening process, in a fully wetting system, is simulated in three dimensions with a kinetic Monte Carlo model. The results from the simulation for microstructures, kinetics and particle size distributions are compared to available experimental findings. It is found that the average parti...
